Business of all sizes and industries are successfully uilizing social media sites to promote their websites, products and services. What a lot of these same companies are not doing yet, however, is utilizing their websites, products, and services to promote their social media presense. Why not utilize your website to gain a wider Facebook or Twitter following? Or use your product packaging and store receipts to invite people to join your Facebook group?
Not to long ago, we added a Facebook button and Flickr link to one of our toronto website design clients’, Backpakers On Dundas, website. We expected that this would add to the popularity of their Facebook group and also serve as inspiration for past clients to send in photos of their stay at BoD. Fortunately, this is what happened. We were also hoping that placing Facebook and Flickr onto the homepage would improve the stickiness of the site, and it did. This improved conversions as well – yay! We actually saw a higher click through to the reservations page and, here is the coolest part (mostly because we did not expect this) less people left the reservation form without completing it! Oh, and also, Google has improved the ranking of the site by one page rank.
The same client added his Facebook and blog addresses to his activities board in his Toronto hostel with the message “Visit for more info about Toronto activities”. He tells me that he has received positive feedback from hostel goers.
Has anyone elso eperimented with adding Facebook, Flickr or other social media to their websites, product packaging, etc? I would love to hear about the results!
