After weeks of bitter protest, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has stepped down.
According to a video posted on the BBC news website, social media – namely, Twitter and Facebook – played a large role in organizing the social revolution. With a predominantly young population, many Egyptians turned to popular social networking sites to rally and organize public protests, despite the Egyptian government’s “spectacularly unsuccessful” attempt at censoring the Internet from its citizens.
